Story

The Lyke Wake Walk 2009.

Update Sunday 6th September:

Mission accomplished!

I completed the run in 8hrs 24mins.

I will write a longer report here later, but THANK YOU to all those who have supported me and Save The Children Fund. Well done to you all!

Simon

For those of you who don't know, the LWW traverses 42 miles of the North York Moors starting near Osmotherley and finishing in Ravenscar. The terrain is very varied with some sections of wild open moorland as well as paved tracks along part of the Cleveland Way.

It is a route I have always wanted to complete ever since I saw TV coverage of the mass traverses of the moors in the 1970's. Now, after many years of putting it off I have taken the plunge to finally follow in the footsteps of all those Venture Scouts and Outward Bound students!

All the long distance challenges I have completed in the past (Coast-To-Coast, Cotswold Way) have helped to raise money for Save The Childen Fund and the LWW will be no different.

Why Save The Children Fund?  Because it is a charity that my mother has supported for many years and it was therefore an easy choice for me to make.

Here are a few examples from the StCF website of what your donation could do to help children across the world live a better life:

Malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds.

£21.00 will provide 5 mosquito nets treated with insecticide, so children can sleep safely at night.

£11.00 will buy vegetable seeds so families can grow their own food.

£10.00 will buy a pair of shoes for a child. Buying a pair of shoes for a child will help keep little feet safe, and help little people go to school.

£12.00 for a set of school text books.

£14.00 for a school desk.

£18.00 for a school uniform.
