Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2013 I set myself the biggest challenge of my life so far in entering the Robin Hood Marathon, followed two weeks later by the Survival of the Fittest Nottingham (A 12k assault course). I was lucky enough to be able to train and complete both. But why you may ask? Well in February 2014 I am taking part in a volunteer project in Uganda, teaching children the joys of Cricket whilst also raising the subject of AIDS/HIV awareness. The more money I can raise the more equipment and kit I can take over for the deprived children to use and enjoy long after our two week trip has departed.

Why Africa though?

Well each year more than one million adults and children die from HIV/Aids in Africa alone. 91% of the worlds HIV positive children live in Africa. In the UK HIV/Aids is barely mentioned. This is my small way of doing something about this.

So why Cricket without Boundaries I hear you say? Well those who know me will know that I have a real passion for Cricket. Some might say an unhealthy passion. Well each year the Cricket without Boundaries trust (http://www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com/) send Volunteers to Africa to spread the game of Cricket to some of the most deprived, poverty stricken children on our planet. Most importantly whilst teaching them the joys of our amazing Sport they also link the sport to HIV/Aids awareness. It's all good sending money over to Africa to combat the disease but if the people out there aren't educated about the disease all the money in the world isn't going to do the job. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go out to Uganda in Spring 2014 to help with this work.

Please give generously. How many people do you know in the UK who suffer from HIV/Aids? Thankfully in the UK it gets very little coverage. Let's do our little bit to combat this horrible epidemic that we are fortunate enough not to have to combat and witness on a daily basis.
