Event: VSO - Long-term volunteering 2010-2011, on 30 December 2011
We bring people together to build generational change.

Story

January 2011 - Thank you to everyone who came to the leaving party and donated  - it was a great night! Not long to go now until i leave and i have reached my target. Thank you!!

December 2010 - Thank you to everyone who donated for me doing the triathlon. I completed it in 2 1/2 hours - a time I was really pleased with especially as there was snow, ice and wind! My departure date is 10th Feb so not long to go! Thank you!!

October 2010 - In February 2011 I am off to work for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and the Ministry of Education in Guyana. I am going to be an Early Years Literacy Advisor training teachers in early reading and phonic skills. I will be running workshops and going into schools working together with Guyanese teachers.

Guyana is the second poorest country in South America (after Haiti). What attracted me to VSO was its long term aims. They send professionals to go and train local people and therefore the impact is much bigger and more likely to be sustainable.

Reading is such a basic skill and can open the doors for so many opportunities. This project will give teachers the skills and resources to provide good quality education and in turn give children a better start in life.

On November 27th I will be completing a triathlon (I know - impressive for me!). It will involve a 1 kilometer swim, 5 miles of running and a 10 mile bike ride. My target is to finish it in one piece!

I am asking that you sponsor me for undertaking this event and help me reach the target of £900 which I need to raise for VSO. This money will continue to help projects like the one I am doing.

Donating through “Just Giving” is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with this organization – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Therefore it’s the most efficient way to donate – it will enable me to raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you very much for your support!
