Story

On Thursday 11th August, Friday 12th August and Saturday 13th August, Adrian Schofield and Caroline Green will be paddling the Thames in a Kayak.  Well, not quite all of the Thames - we’ll do as much as we can over three days (during the daytime) - we aim to do about 20 miles a day!

Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of giving blood.  If you can give blood you really will be saving lives.  And if you give blood already there is plenty more you can do - you can also donate platelets and sign up to the bone marrow registry.  Or help encourage your work to make it easier for people to give blood. Every ‘pint’ you give will push us on further to paddle another mile.

Why we're supporting the Aplastic Anaemia Trust:

The bone marrow is the soft fatty tissue found in the cavities of our bones. Basically it is the "factory" where most of our blood cells - red cells, platelets and white cells - are made. Aplastic anaemia (or bone marrow failure) is a serious rare disease that develops when the bone marrow fails to produce these blood cells.  The Aplastic Anaemia Trust helps support those with this terrible disease as well as carrying out vital research.  To find out more about them visit their website www.theaat.org.uk

For many Aplastic Anaemia sufferers, blood transfusions are a vital part of how they manage their condition.  To find out more about giving blood and how you can save lives go to www.blood.co.uk where you will find out all about the great work of the National Blood Service.

Donating blood also helps many others as well including those suffering from sickle cell disease, blood loss due to childbirth or serious accidents, used to help sufferers of many cancers inc lukemia and many many more things than we can list here!

You can also donate platelets and sign up the bone marrow registry - check out www.blood.co.uk for more info.
