**UPDATE**
As you can see, I've now reached my target - woo hoo!
A few friends and family have expressed interest in helping support me on my trip so if this is the case for you, please get in touch with me and we'll arrange something.
Of course, if you'd like the money to go straight to Raleigh International then please go ahead and donate here as it's a great cause.
Thanks!
==================================================================================================
Hello,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
Next summer I'm off to Borneo for two months to be a Project Manger with Raleigh International. You can find out more about Raleigh by reading the summary on the left or clicking here, but, to summarise I'll be managing a group of 17-24 year old volunteers work to make a difference in the world, challenge themselves and have the experience of a lifetime. Hopefully - this will be the case for me too! I won't find out the exact nature of the work I'll be doing until I get there, but it could be anything from building a school in a local community, developing eco-infrastructure to gravity feed water systems!
To get on the expedition I've had to go through an application and assessment process which had me wading through a lake in my underwear, hiking until 2am and sleeping in tarpaulin shelter on a very cold and extremely wet weekend. If that's not proof enough of my belief in the work Raleigh do, I'm not sure what is!
Raleigh believes in challenging people to fulfill their potential, and much of the challenge of the expedition is in the run up to take off! In preparation for this trip I need to get as physically fit as possible, and mentally prepared, and I also need to fund raise £1500 before I go. This is no small amount so I am asking family and friends, strangers and well wishers,to show their support for the excellent work Raleigh do by supporting me. This is only my minimum target, everything above and beyond this will be gratefull received!
If you do decide to contribute, this is where your money goes:
76% of your money goes towards the running of the projects in the three countries Raleigh operate in (Borneo, Costa Rica and India)
12% goes towards recruitment, marketing and PR
11% goes towards the running of Raleigh in the UK
1% is spent on the governance of running a charity in the UK.
The expedition is certianly not a thinly veiled excuse of a holiday. It will be challenging, exhausting, and a far cry from my comfort zone, but, ultimately rewarding and hopefully life changing experience, not only for me, but for everyone involved in the project. To find out more about my preparation leading up to the trip, as well as upcoming fundraising events you can see my blog here.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Raleigh International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Please sponsor me - I will be eternally grateful and you will be supporting a fantastic cause.
Sarah
