Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will know, I have lost 3 stone by following Slimming World over the last 18 months. I'm still a couple of stone away from my final target and thought an added incentive of helping out others might be in order.
With other members of the Yateley Saturday morning Slimming World Group run by Lezley Anne Irving I am trying to loose a stone between 17th September and 1st December (when i go on holiday). I'll then be trying to loose the next stone (plus any addiotnal holiday weight) by the end of March 2013 . I'm doing this for the Charity Walking with Giants.
This is a charity which supports people who have a very rare condition called Primordial Dwarfism. This condition means that when children are born, they are very small, but completely in proportion, unlike other forms of dwarfism. There are approximately 200 sufferers of the condition worldwide. This presents many problems not least the fact that very few doctors have seen the condition before, or have any idea of the potential issues a child with PD faces.
This charity is very close to my heart, as my niece, Charlotte (with me in the photo), was born with the condition. She was 1lb 11oz when she was born in September 2007, and I could carry her in one hand, with room to spare. She's now 5 years old, weighs just under 9lbs, and is 64 cm tall. She started mainstream infant school in September 2012
The Foundation have done so much for my sisters family, from helping my sister with driving lessons so she doesn't have to rely on buses for the many hospital appointments that Charlotte has, to helping source School Uniforms when she started school this year.
You can find out more about the condition and the important work the charity does by going to www.walkingwithgiants.org
The Walking With Giants Foundation are trying to raise £50,000 to take the famillies and Children with Primordial Dwarfism in the UK to the Little People of America Convention next summer. This will provide the families and children with the opportunity to meet other sufferers of the condition, meet medical experts, get access to specialist equipment ,and above all, feel less alone.
