I have madly agreed to abseil down the Avon Gorge in to raise money for the Buddhafield Land Appeal. I have never done anything like this before and feel fairly confident that as long as I don't look down, I will be ok! If you'd like to sponsor me, that would be great.
The Buddhafield Land Appeal is to raise money for a piece of land called Frog Mill, which lies within the , and is used each year for Buddhafield's largest camping retreats, including a families retreat. Many children on the families retreat come back here each year, enjoying the freedom to run around over a big area, play in the river, and learn about the environment through bushcraft sessions. There are 17 acres, with pasture, mature trees and an ancient ruined mill. Buddhafield got a grant to do a full wildlife and habitat survey for the land, which revealed that the lovely Blackaton Brook which flows through it is home to salmon, kingfishers and dippers amongst others. The intention is to maintain and plant up the site in a way which will enhance and protect the habitat, and preserve it as an idyllic spot for people to spend time close to nature and to learn about and practice Buddhism and meditation amidst tranquility and beauty. It makes an enormous difference to have a permanent site, and it will be a great boost for Buddhafield if we can pay off the remaining £35k owed for the land.
The abseil will cost £45 and, having just been made redundant from my main job, and I will need to use a proportion of donations to help pay the cost.
