Im taking on the challenge of trekking 46 miles over 5 days through the Grand Canyon this year to raise money for St Thomas Lupus Trust.

My Mum was taken critically ill in 2010 with a very rare form of Lupus, so rare that there are only about 3000 cases a year in the UK. She was transferred to the ICU at St Thomas where, under the expertise of staff from The Louise Coote Lupus Unit, they were able to diagnose this condition and treat accordingly. This unit is the largest Lupus unit in Europe and accepts patients from across the world.

Although more common than MS and Leukemia, the cause of Lupus is still unknown and the unit has a strong research department partnered with Kings College London. However, the NHS only pay for 2 doctors and nurses and the rest including research and technicians is totally reliant on the money raised by this charity.
