Story

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm really passionate about this project and I hope you'll feel the same way after reading below. Together we can really make a real difference on this one, so stay with me!

These amazing orang-utans only live in two small islands of Indonisia. As a result of logging and agricultural development like Palm Oil cultivation, 90% of Sabah's (on the island of Borneo) native population has been wiped out in the past 100 years.

Dr Isabelle Lackman is a conservationist and primatologist working in Sabah, Borneo. Isabelle has lived out there with the Kinabatangan Conservation Organisation for 15 years doing research, working with the people of Borneo and helping to protect the ever decreasing population of orang-utans in that area. She has made a dramatic difference to their survival. The problem is, at present the orang-utan population is isolated in secondary forested areas surrounded by farmland, domestic housing and palm oil plantations and a dividing river. She is working with the World Land Trust who have just launched their biggest appeal ever: to raise a million pounds to purchase land in areas which link these forested areas together thus making it possible for the orang-utans to thrive in a united population. Without these corridors, the orang-utans will eventually die out.

In October the World Land Trust begins a special two week campaign to raise £250,000 with the target being £1000000 to purchase the land necessary to ensure the survival of these beautiful animals. It is imperative that we act now to ensure their protection. Please join with me to help raise this money. Whatever you can afford would be so appreciated by the World Land Trust , Isabelle and the Kinabatangan Conservation Organisation.

Thank you so much for your time. If there you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch with me, or the World Land Trust.
