Story
Hi, my name is Sam Antrobus. Thank you for taking the time visit my JustGiving page.
Inspired by my brother, Paul, who is part way through the Antrobus 12-in-12 - twelve physical challenges in twelve months to raise $250,000 to support cancer research - I offer my own, slightly less time consuming but no less daunting series of challenges , the Sam Antrobus 6-in-6! I would be hugely grateful for your support.
The background
Twelve years ago my sister-in-law died, aged 34, after a six month struggle with cancer. Paul made a promise to himself - and their two sons (then aged 7 and 2) - to raise some money for charity by running two marathons in a single year. His plans were derailed at the time by a serious virus, but now with cancer once again haunting our family he has revived his plans and created The Antrobus 12 in 12 Challenges against Cancer. You can read more about his plans here, which include two marathons, several ultra runs, a cross country ski race, and climbing the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, all within a twelve month period: http://www.antrobus12in12.com
The challenges
I will be joining Paul for one of these challenges: the Lake District 10 Peaks Challenge in June this year. The route starts at the base of Helvellyn, takes in Bowfell, Great End and Scafell Pike and ends in Keswick, nearly 50km and 3,200m of ascent later! The full route is here: http://www.10peaks.com/the-lakes/short-course/
In the build up to this, I have set myself a series of challenges:
January: A relatively gentle start - I have begun my training with the aim of running 50km during the course of January, which is precisely 50km more than I have run in the whole of last year!
February: The Castle Combe 10k. For my first competitive 10k I'll be following in the tyre tracks of Stirling Moss, lapping the famous Castle Combe race circuit.
March: The Devizes Half Marathon (21km). Stepping up the distance, the Devizes Half Marathon loops through the village of All Cannings where I grew up.
April: The Corsham 10k. This one will be a test of my powers of persuasion as I attempt to persuade 50 other runners to join me for the Corsham 10k, running under the livery of the newly formed Heywood Harriers.
May: This month's challenge is all about vertical gain. In preparation for ascending 3,200 metres in one day, I've devised a 15k route centred on the University of Bath, where I spent four happy years. The route includes each of the steep hills approaching the campus (Brassknocker Hill, Claverton Hill, North Road, Bathwick Hill and Widcombe Hill), a total gain of 440m. I aim to run the route seven times over the course of the month to approximately equate to the 3,200 gain to come in June…
June: The culmination of the challenge period... the Lake District 10 Peaks!
Thank you in advance for your support!
Sam
