Story

This isn't really about me running a marathon, it's about these amazing people and raising awareness.

http://www.truespirit.org.uk/

I am aware that I have already undertaken a sponsored event this year and so understand that you may have already donated to this fantastic cause, but I still want to raise awareness of what people go on to achieve after injury.

Most of you will know that I have worked as a military physiotherapist for the last 15 years, helping to rehabilitate injured soldiers.

In the recent months I have been lucky enough to spend some time at Tedworth House Personal Recovery Centre, where I have been helping out with sporting and adventurous training activities for wounded, injured and sick soldiers and veterans. It was here that I heard about Team True Spirit and the amazing venture that they were about to undertake in a few weeks time.

In awe of some of the feats that have been overcome, I jumped at the chance of being part of Team True Spirit as someone else had unfortunatey had to pull out. Luckily for me, they were only completing the marathon section as part of a relay team which is a good job as I wouldn't say I swim like a fish and I dont think the tyres on my bike have been pumped up for about 5 years!!

I have ran a marathon or two before, but only ever dressed in fancy dress and even then mainly fruit themed costumes!! One dressed as an Orange (see the connection with the surname!!), one dressed as a Banana in the well known sandy desert known as Afghanistan - that was a little hot to say the least and I had hoped to get my nice pear out for my latest one which I completed in April. The 'Pear Costume' unfortunately didn't arrive in time and so I ran as a slice of pizza instead - as you do:)

This time though, there will be no orange, banana or pear costumes (unless there is a little mishap with the sizing of the outfit!!) as I will be immensely proud to be donning the Team True Spirit's very own trisuit. I am extremely privileged to be part of such an amazing team.

I have a feeling next year I may be saying 'yes' to the whole thing!!!
