Hello everyone! Thanks for visiting Sal's fundraising page! Let's GET SAL TO GHANA!!!!I am going to Ghana for six months in Feb 2010. I will be working with children and young people in an orphanage providing basic care and basic teaching, as well as helping with the day to day running of the orphanage! I will find the project shortly before I leave, and will either be in the capital Accra or the second largest city Kumasi.
I am going with the charity Intercultural Youth Exchange (www.icye.org.uk) so scroll down this page for more information!!-- BIG BIG thanks to my Auntie Susan who let me and my family take over her house to cook for some of her friends to raise funds. Total raised from an extremely generous donation from my aunt and her lovely guests was £224 so thankkssss to all who attended, ate our food and gave so kindly (thanks also to my mum, dad and hattie who probably wont read this but also deserve thanks for buying the food/cooking and serving with me!) -- I have created a blog that hopefully I will be able to update as much as possible while I am away! its www.ghanasal.blogspot.com - fingers crossed for a good internet connection in Ghana!
NEWS: I am overwhelmed by recent donations - Thanks to: Steve
and Sandra Lovatt, Mr Higginbotham who stayed at the hostel over

I am halfway through my injections! I have to have 3 twinrix, 3 rabies, typhoid, tet booster, meningitis and yellow fever. There is only one word to express this = OWCH!
Many many many many thanks to my recent donatees! I am extroadinarily greatful to EVERYONE to has donated so far.
visit the video of my barn dance! kindly put together by Phil. www.digi-group.net/VideoOn Saturday 14th I held a barn
dance to raise funds for my trip to Ghana. It was a really great night and many thanks go to the
wonderful people who came and drank so much and purchased so many
raffle tickets!!
The trust Hazel's Footprints are donating £600 to my cause, during my time in Ghana I will be a "footprinter" for the trust, which is really exciting! Visit the website at www.hazelsfootprints.org !
I have recently received £200 sponsership from the Ashbourne Lions Club - so many thanks to them!On 13th June I power walked the Wollaton Park 10km wearing a cardboard safari car I made! I did it in 1 hour 13 minutes and my feet really hurt now! Ghana is on the west coast of Africa. As in the rest of Africa, young people between the ages of 10 and 24 comprise more than one-third of the total population of the country. By 2025, young people will number 12 million.
The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has said that one of the biggest challenges in the country is how to support the growing number of orphans and vulnerable children that occur as a result of death caused by the HIV/AIDS virus within the communities.
I have selected
ICYE (Inter Cultural Youth Exchange) because it is a charity dedicated to helping young people make better lives for themselves. ICYE strongly in the principles of a reciprocal exchange and part of the money raised will go towards enabling young people from developing countries to experience volunteering in a different culture just like me! ICYE is totally different from any standard GAP year organisation, as ICYE only sends volunteers to countries where there is an existing ICYE Partner Organisation and only sends volunteers to places they are truly needed!
It would be truly amazing if you could sponser me for this. Any donation is fantastic, and none is too small! I will be thinking up as many fundraising ideas as I possibly can until February so watch this space!! Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange (Icye-Uk) Ltd gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
