Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
For some years now a few of us at Newcastle Yacht Club have talked of the idea to sail to the Isle of Man. We're finally getting round to it and over the weekend of 13-14th June, a number of us will (weather permitting) sail the 40mile trip each way from Newcastle, Co Down to Peel on the Isle of Man and back.
We are making the trip in three dinghies; Marc Miskelly in his RS 400, my son Liam and I in our RS200s. These boats are two man performance sailing dinghies that are normally used for Sunday afternoon racing rather than making a sea going passage. We will have a number of crew who are listed below and will share the effort along the way.
We will be joined by three ribs providing support and two yachts from Newcastle Yacht Club,
Those taking part:
RS Dinghy helms - Marc Miskelly, Liam Coffey, Clive Coffey
RS Dinghy crew - Stevie Cassidy, Helen Cassidy, James Doran, Luke McIlwaine, Peter Hunt, Niall O’Rourke, Donna Mackey, Erin McIlwaine
Three safety ribs - John Kelly, Liz Taylor, Alan Whitcroft, Simon McIlwaine, Tony Brown
Two support yachts - Anne Robb (Laoni), Kingsley Singer (Searoma)
Planning of the passage is well underway and I hope by us undertaking this challenge, together we will be able to raise money to help the people of Nepal rebuild their lives after the recent devastating earthquakes. Any donation big or small would be greatly appreciated, it all counts! Thank you.
