Story
This is the big one! I am riding around the globe on my BMW R1200GS motorcycle to raise £10,000 Myeloma UK. Setting off on Saturday with £1,000 raised so far, I've got a long way to go both in terms of raising money and the journey ahead... I can only make it with your support.
The First Leg
On the first leg I will be riding with some friends to North Africa. We will cross the Atlas Mountains and then head north up through Europe where we will part company and I will head east. After riding through southern Europe I will arrive at Istanbul on 1st May. In
Istanbul I will meet my
Central Asia riding companions for the first time. Fifteen of us be riding together along the
Silk Road in party headed by the motorcycle explorer Helge Pedersen.
The Silk Road
The Silk Road route will take us through central Asia north of the Taklamakan desert. I have a feeling that this section is going to be the highlight of the trip. We will finally end up in Xi’an (the location of the Terracotta warriors) from where my motorcycle will be crated and shipped to Seattle. From Seattle I with go north up to Yukon then back down the Rockies and finally across the country to Montreal from where the bike and I will be flying back to
London.
Why?
All the money raised will go to directly to MyelomaUK http://www.myeloma.org.uk/, the charity that supports the rare cancer that my mother battled against bravely for so many years. Myeloma
is a rare type of bone marrow cancer arising from plasma cells, which are normally found in the bone marrow.
JustGiving.com
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Myeloma will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Your Support
I really want to raise £10,000 so please sponsor me now - however small!
And ,when donating, please remember to tick the box for MyelomaUK to keep you informed because they will be mailing my updates during the trip - thanks.
The Blog
To keep you all up to date of my progress, I am going to be keeping a blog of my thoughts and experiences as I progress on my journey. You can see this and more information about what I'm doing at www.621.org.uk
