EnCourage is a charity that was set up in order to support people like you and me who have left abusive and cultic groups. This support is achieved by providing subsidised counselling for survivors who cannot afford to pay for the care they sometimes need to deal with their situation.
I was personally helped by this charity.

When a person has just left a cultic group, they are often left with no social capital to fall back on, especially if groups use ostracism and enforced pariahdom to establish strong boundaries between 'in' and 'out'. Such people usually do not have any financial assets to their name, and NHS mental-health providers are typically unable to sufficiently address their problems.

When I went to a doctor, desperate for help, some years ago, I was told that the NHS only provides care for "real problems". It was only after seeking out private, specialised therapy that things began to make sense. The nature of cultic abuse is not well understood by many people, and an understanding ear was the key to unlock my anguish. EnCourage subsidised my counselling fees to make them affordable. By raising funds for this charity, we provide a gift to marginalised, disenfranchised, vulnerable people...

Cultic groups operate through excessive devotion to a powerful leader, idea, or thing, along with the use of unethical and manipulative techniques of persuasion and control, with the aim of advancing the goals of the leader to the detriment of participants, their families, and the community. Such conditions are ripe for enabling abuse, notwithstanding the psychological damage that results from coercive environments.
NB: The effectiveness of counselling to assist former members of cultic groups may be in doubt, owing to the fact that I am not very normal but TRUST ME! It helped A LOT!! Imagine how much more f*cked up I would be if I hadn't received this help!
