UPDATE (May 23)
Coventry half marathon completed in 1h 48. Whilst not even close to my 1h 38 PB, it was in many ways my most rewarding effort to date. 13.1 miles in unprecedented blistering heat, along the most gruelling course I've taken on yet. I just about managed to get through without stopping or collapsing. The challenge is complete, with 61.85 miles clocked across four races. This is around 99.5km, so I'll be doing 91 laps around my college Pool table to bring the tally up to a nice round 100km. Many thanks for your continued support and please keep the donations coming!
UPDATE (May 17)
Over a month on from Paris and I fear I may have gotten back into training a little too soon. My body feels broken, muscles ripped to shreds and even walking is a chore at times. Still, how could I refuse the Oxford Town&Gown 10k? A gruelling race, completed in a pleasing time of 44:10. I'm still not past 50 miles (48.75...so close!) so will do the Coventry half next weekend as promised. I have six days to recover and refuel. Almost there!
UPDATE (April 11)
Paris Marathon completed! An incredible journey ended with a thrilling 3h 48 run around the streets of Paris, with few problems en route but unbelievable pain in the final hour. I managed to get through without stopping and am absolutely delighted with the result. The Coventry half remains to surpass the 50 mile mark and complete the challenge...can't wait!
UPDATE (March 25)
Kilomathon completed! In a painstaking journey to my city of birth, I hobbled through in a tentative time of 2h 12, just within the 2h 15 target. I seem to have overcome my many injuries for now and have just completed a 20 mile run, suggesting Paris is still on. Although, my target is revised to sub 4 hours.
Peace!
Following the success of
Runner 'Been: The Debut, I'm back with the eagerly anticipated sequel. In an attempt to outdo the original, I've upped the ante.
The challenge3 races. 3 cities. 50+ miles.
Race 1:
HistoryWorld's first ever official 26.2 km (16.3 miles) race in Nottingham, March 14.
Race 2:
Main eventParis Marathon (26.2 miles), April 11.
Race 3:
Homecoming
Coventry half-marathon (13.1 miles), May 23.
Targets: as always, the primary aim is to finish each one without
stopping. After that, I'm targeting times of 2h 15, 3h 45 and 1h 38
respectively.
Of course, this is all subject to staying fit and
healthy; far from certain! In any case, I hope to cover enough mileage
in these or other races to warrant your generous donations.
The causeI'm raising much needed money for the
DEC's Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
Their need for your donations will outlast this project so please contribute what you can. As always, every last penny counts.
The boring but important bit
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s
also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DEC gets
your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure
25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Keep up to date
I've set up a
facebook group and my
running blog is ongoing. Expect regular updates and some (not so serious) training videos in both!
Finally
Thanks for taking the time to visit this page. Please stay in touch
and keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers. Most importantly, please donate!
Much love,
Junaid
