Wow! What a day! On Sunday 13th April I ran the Flora London marathon for charity and, believe it or not, I really enjoyed it. Having suffered an injury five weeks before the race, I decided that I wouldn't 'push it' at all. I didn't know how long I would last if I did so I just trundled at a steady 10mins per mile, with everyone overtaking me (!) for the first half. Suddenly, at 13miles, it seemed like everyone else had come back to normality and were either running with me, slowing down or even stopping. My legs too stopped co-operating fully between miles 20 and 22 but I only resorted to walking once, (and only then for about 10 seconds!). Just before mile 23 my legs came back to life amazingly so I finished very comfortably, with a smile - as well as a mini-sprint - for the cameras!!
I had a really great day and was totally overawed by the support out there on the road. I may not have beaten Paula Radcliffe but I certainly won the competition for eating the most sweets handed out by spectators!!
None of this would have been possible however without the support of those who've offered me sponsorship. If you haven't had the chance to sponsor me yet though, don't worry! You can sponsor me online right up until the beginning of June. It's the most efficient way for me to raise funds for my charity, the Outward Bound Trust. And the cool thing is that, if you are a UK taxpayer, your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you. Cheers, Mr. Chancellor!
Both myself and the Outward Bound Trust would really appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously! Many thanks.
