Story
Rory is raising money for the Sir Francis Chichester Trust by taking on the Jester Challenge 2010. This is a singlehanded sailing adventure from Plymouth, UK, heading 2800 miles against the prevailing winds and currents across the North Atlantic to reach Newport, Rhode Island, USA. It is open to sailors in boats of 20-30ft length. The Challenge starts off the Plymouth breakwater at 1300hrs on 23rd May 2010 and Rory is estimating it will take approx. 5 weeks to sail his 21ft catamaran "Cookie" to Newport. This endurance feat will create a new sailing record for the smallest multihull east-to-west along the Northern Atlantic route. Go Cookie!!!!!
Sir Francis Chichester took part in the first Trans-Atlantic solo-sailing race back in 1960 and indeed was the winner. This year is the 50th anniversary and so it is with honour that I follow in the wake of Chichester and his yacht Gypsy Moth III to take on the Challenge of the North Atlantic and to raise money for the charity that Francis left behind as his legacy. My aim is to inspire todays youth to reach for their dreams as I was shown when I was a lad. the Francis Chichester Trust sends underprivileged youths on Outward Bound courses to help discover themselves through adventure.
