Story

AND THE BIGGEST LOSER IS.....

Rory, with a total weight loss of 8.1 Kgs - or more than 9% of his starting weight. In all the eight of us lost a total of 31.7Kgs over the nine weeks.

As far as I can see the closest bet was Richard Scott's 28Kgs, so he wins the Nintendo 3DS.

And this page has now raised nearly £1,500 for Comic Relief, so many thanks to you all.

UPDATE WEEK 6

Just two weeks to go now in our weight loss challenge - and some startling news. Rory is ahead of all the opposition with a total weight loss of more than 6 kilos so far. But  some backsliders have actually put on wieght this last week. There is still time to sponsor us - and there's a chance to win a Nintendo 3DS if you guess the total weight loss by the time we weigh in on May 3rd.

UPDATE WEEK 4

Great news - the prize for the most accurate guess at the total weight loss has been unveiled. It's the latest games console - the Nintendo 3DS.

To encourage people to keep on giving and guessing, I'm not going to give any more updates on the total weight loss.

But I will reveal the biggest loser each week. This week it's John, who now shares the lead for the biggest overall weight loss with Rory.

UPDATE WEEK 2

The rate of decline has slowed - this week we lost 4.6Kgs, so total lost so far is 11.7kgs out of our 672.5kg starting weight.

The week's biggest loser was Anthony who lost 1.7kgs, but the biggest loser so far is John who has shed 2.4Kgs so far. Mind you, he was seen this morning eating a bacon sandwich, so all that could change. Last wek's biggest loser, Rory, has faded with just 200g shed in the last seven days.

Please keep sponsoring - and guessing at the overall weight loss. There will be news very soon of a fabulous prize for the most accurate guess - one of the gadgets of 2011.

UPDATE - WEEK 1

After one week, the eight of us have lost an amazing total of 7.1kgs. The biggest loser lost over 2kgs, the smallest 100g.

Check in here for regular updates - and please give generously. Feel free to take a punt on the final total of kilos lost - there will be a prize for the most accurate guess.

You can also nominate just who you think is likely to be the biggest loser - though there is no prize for that.  More later - but please encourage your friends to donate to this very good cause which will also bring a leaner, fitter BBC Economics Unit.

THE MISSION

Six men, two women - one mission. To lose weight over the next nine weeks in aid of Red Nose Day. Rory, Jon, Jonathan, Emma, Ian, John, Mantej and Anthony are BBC Economics Unit staff who are going on a get fit challenge.

Their combined weight on March 1st was 672.5Kg. So by the time the contest ends on May 3rd how much will they have lost? And who will be the biggest loser - as a percentage of their starting weight?

There is a hi-tech element to the contest - the weigh-ins are being conducted using a set of wifi scales.
