Story
The following people have shown a remarkable lack of common sense
and have become the 'Robinsons Dizzy Blondes' team in this year's Menai Straights Raft Race (too late to back out now).
Having accustomed a raft (of sorts), we will row some of the most difficult sailing straits in the world to navigate - so please show your support and give what you can (no donation is too small). If we reach the target John Robinson will also cycle from Stockport to Abersoch (if the prospect of John falling in the Straits isn't motivation enough).
The charity we will be raising money will be Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team: http://www.llanberismountainrescue.co.uk/ The Team is a voluntary organisation and has its headquarters next to one of our pubs, The Vaynol in Nant Peris, just below the Snowdon range. The Team go out in all weathers to assist and rescue any and all visitors to the area who get lost or distressed and is a great cause to support. The Motley Crew in the raft consists of:
Jaqueline Ward - Telesales Smuggler
Craig Fairfield - Property Ships carpenter
Sam Kennerley - Marketing Cabin Boy
John Robinson - Marketing Head oarsman
Veronica Robinson - Training Bosun
Daniella Martin - Marketing First Mate
John Hughes - BDM Gentleman and damn fine chap..
The event takes place on the 1st June 2014. The route starts near one of our Robinsons pubs on the mainland side,The Garddfon, then north east for approx 6 miles along the Menai Straits finishing at Menai Bridge. For those of you who don’t know the area, the race runs east through The Swellies, made famous by Admiral Lord Nelson who rated it as one of the most difficult sailing straights in the world to navigate. We will also pass under two iconic landmarks of Wales , the Menai straights bridges connecting Anglesey to the mainland. The oldest of which was famously constructed by Thomas Telford. Providing the weather is kind you will also see the church on the island in the middle of the straights, pass nelsons memorial statue and have glorious views of Snowdon . The race ends at Menai Bridge.
Here is a link to the organisers which has a couple of videos of previous events which will give you a flavour of what we have let ourselves in for... http://www.greatstraitraftrun.co.uk/
Please support us if you can - it's a great cause and we need all the help we can get!! :-) xx
