STOP PRESS
I ned to confess that after miles and miles of painful, challenging training I injured my right ankle and didn't actually run the race. This was very annoying - for me as well as my sponsors!
However, in the spirit of the event, I hope that if you're browsing this page you'll still be happy to sponsor my attempt - even if it ended before the starting line this time
Thanks
Robert
Hi there
I'm running the London Marathon for Rethink. I've become very involved with this super charity and have seen first hand the difference they can make to people's lives. Their work is not sexy; they help people living with the horror of long term, severe mental illness. It's something that can hit any of us and when it does, the stigma, fear and prejudice of others can maker it worse!
The money I raise is being split two ways. Half will go to support Rethink's national campaigning work and the rest will be invested in a garden party that will take place in the summer of 2008. You might wonder why we're staging a garden party: the answer's simple. It's a great opportunity for people living with mental ill health, their carers, families and friends to come together and enjoy a great day out in good company. For the technically minded amonst you, this is about confidence building, interpersonal skill development and the banishment of stigma.
The more you give the better the party. This page will be updated regularly as the fundraising campaign and the event plan develops. Please give generously, frequently and when the date is fixed, put it in your diary as every suipporter will be welcome to come along.
Thanks for your support
Robert
