Story

I'm not a swimmer. I mean I could swim as a child but really only about once a year on a beach somewhere warm...

I got hooked about 4 years ago when I found it such a relaxing way to unwind at the end of the day. There is something primordial about being in the water, something deeply relaxing that forces you to forget the worries of the day. I then found open water swimming through Swimtrek and absolutely loved it....Being immersed in nature and swimming to a distant cove or beach......Amazing.

Swimming teaches you not to fight or struggle, this simply leads to rapid exhaustion. It teaches you to be patient, to relax as you work.........

I then met Julie through a mutual friend at a Christian healing day. Even before then I'd been hooked to the YouTube video of David Walliams Channel swim. We spoke about the Channel relay team that she had been training with for nearly a year. Someone had dropped out and they had a vacancy and I jumped at it.........the rest is history or will be after July............

So the Channel........yes it is cold, probably about 16C in July, yes it is along way, approximately 35km and yes it is one of the busiest waterways in the world. Yes we will probably be swimming in the dark for part of it and yes there are jelly fish. What you may not know is that there are basking sharks around, fridges and generally floating debris and if we are really lucky ...sewage....

So please, spare a thought and some cash, for me and the team as we swim through some fairly unpleasant stuff en route to France.....We are raising money on behalf of a Christian charity called Derek Prince Ministries (DPM) UK. DPM provide Christian teaching materails in over 1000 languages to Church leaders and Christian communities around the world. They also provide food and education to poor widows and orphans in Ethiopia.
