Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am taking part in the London Triathlon Sprint Distance - swimming 750m, cycling for 20km, then running for 5km.
I'm doing this triathlon for very deep and personal reasons. In early 2006, my father-in-law was misdiagnosed several times, as he became seriously ill. Sadly, by the time he was correctly diagnosed, it was too late, and he passed away in April 2006 from t-cell lymphoma directly caused by undiagnosed coeliacs disease.
Latest research estimates that there are around 125,000 people who have been diagnosed with coeliac disease. This suggests that there are nearly another 500,000 people with coeliac disease who are undiagnosed on the basis that 1:100 have the disease. In fact, since Bill's untimely death, the whole family have been tested and my brother in law is very glad that we were - he has coeliacs.
Coeliac UK provide a helpline for people like my brother in law who, at times, can be very sick and very scared, as doctors are only just learning how to understand this illness. At any given point during the day, 4 fully trained nutrionalists are on hand to help these people. This costs money, indeed their new phone systems cost in the region of £12,000. Let's try and get that money back for them.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Coeliac UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
