Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 29th August Gron Edwards will be joined by fellow 'roadie' Bob Birch in an epic 5 day, 325mile Recumbent Bike ride from Blind Veterans UK's Brighton Centre to their centre in Llandudno.
As challenges go this may not rank as the most extreme, but with a combined age of over 130years, they are no spring chickens!
Gron says "In a world of lycra and high end mass produced racing bikes, the lowly recumbent bike and trike do not tick the fashion box. In fact, you could say that other riders look down at us - literally! However if you have ridden a normal bike for any length of time, you soon become aware of its punishing and painful limitations. In fact it has the aerodynamic properties of a Humvee when at a speed of around 20m.p.h, with 80% of your energy being used to combat air resistance. Not the case with our laid back bikes!"
During the journey, Gron, Bob and their support driver Barry will be raising awareness of the support offered by the charity with a number of visits to military bases taking place along the route. They also want to raise vital funds for the charity's Llandudno Centre where Gron regularly volunteers and sees first hand the difference donations can make.
The route the riders will take can be seen at http://download.cnet.com/GPX-Viewer/3000-20420_4-77374663.html.
The Roadie Riders would appreciate your support - your donations will not only help blind veterans across the UK but will also spur them on in thier challenge.
Gron says "My thanks to one and all and it would be great to see you on our journey - we promise to slow down for any roadies we meet on the way!"
