Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My fundraising activity is undertaken in memory of my sister Rachael, she passed away at the end of 2016 from B-Cell Lymphoma one of the most common forms of Blood Cancer. Her husband and I originally ran the London Marathon in 2016 to show support for Rachael and to raise money and awareness for Anthony Nolan. On the 19th August 2017 we are taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge to continue the good work and provide hope to those who suffer from Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma.
Why choose Anthony Nolan? At the start of my sisters treatment, during the initial Chemotherapy I was made aware that there was procedure available that could significantly enhance the chance of curing Rachael's condition. It uses stems cells from a compatible donor, to help reboot the immune system so that the cancer wouldn't come back. I went to the clinic the next day and had a sample of Blood taken to see if I was a match. Unfortunately I was not and to make matters worse neither was my other sister. This is where Anthony Nolan came in, through the trust, a compatible donor was found, which gave way to a renewed hope that this next course of treatment could have helped beat the disease and give Rachael her life back.
I'm incredibly proud of my sister for how she has dealt with the disease, she was incredibly resilient and so strong given the circumstances, unfortunately after a valiant battle it was not to be and she passed away peacefully in Nov 2016.
It was amazing to see how her friends and family had rallied around her, there were so many people that have put a shift in to keep her buoyed up, so I would like to say a thank you to all those people - you know who you are.
I was originally aiming to raise £2500 for the charity but we smashed that so its onward and upwards to see how many peoples live we can potentially save. With greater awareness and financial support for the organisation, more people with Blood Cancers will have the same opportunity Rachael had.
