Story

Hello,

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am going to be racing my mountain bike, pushing myself to my physical limits, pedalling non-stop, day and night, up arduous, draggy climbs, down rough, gnarly slopes, through tough, technical singletrack, through bike-eating bomb-holes, blasting along gravely fire-roads, whatever the weather, in the Saab Salomon Mountain Mayhem 24 hour MTB race, so why not sponsor me online.

I aim to complete 20 laps of the 10 mile circuit.

The event takes place on 25th-26th June at Eastnor Deerpark, nr Ledbury, in the Malvern Hills, starting 2pm. You are welcome to come along and cheer me on (or up!) or to hand me an energy bar or two Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now - you know it makes sense ;-) Many thanks for your support! Rich. ## Update - 27th June 2005 ## I completed the race yesterday, all I can say is that is has to have been one of the toughtest things I've put myself through yet. I started the race feeling strong, riding through the afternoon into the evening I settled into what I thought was a good pace (I would later find it was a little too quick). Riding through the night laps (from 10pm to 3:30am) I was placed in 2nd. Towards the end of my 10th lap I started to feel fairly ill. I entered the pit area and got cleaned up, ready to go out for another few laps. Unfortunatly I didn't go out again until 6:30am as my body had completly run out of energy. I tackled one more lap but this took well over 3 hours (compared to my previous 1:20 laps), so I called it a day. I crossed the finish line at 2pm that afternoon after having a very long rest, but still feeling like death. I've learnt a lot about myself by doing this and so far, raised over £400. So all in all a good effort - I'll try to do better next time (I need to learn to ride a lot slower). Thanks to all that supported me with sponsorship - remember you can still pledge money to my effort until August. Rich
