We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

This year I am running the Great North Run for Leukaemia Research. I am aiming to complete the 13.1miles in around 1hr50mins (or at least under 2hours).

Without going into more detail than i want to, I have seen the effects and treatments of leukaemia from far too close, so I want to raise as much money to help people with this disease as i can.

Every year, almost 7,000 people are diagnosed with leukaemia in the UK.

Update: October 1st 2006:
So thats it done. i completed the 13.1 miles in 1hr53mins - 7045th out of about 50,000, so im quite pleased, (even if i felt i could have done it faster if id trained properly). My original aim was to finish in around/under 1hr50 so im happy (and very tired). So far, i've raised almost £500, but any more donations can still be made and just as appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me,
Richard

If you're feeling particularly generous, please also visit http://www.justgiving.com/studentdan . This is my uncle, doing the great student run for The Anthony Nolan Trust, which plays a huge part in saving the lives of Leukaemia patients.

May 1st 2006: I have finally started training properly for the race- i was already running regularly, but it probably wasnt enough to complete the distance in less than 2hours, so i've got a full training plan setup. Between now and October i should have covered at least 582km/359miles in training.
