Royal British Legion Riders 19th to 22nd June 2009
(WORLD RECORD "SADDLESORE" ATTEMPT)
The Iron Butt Association is dedicated to safe, long-distance, endurance motorcycle riding. Although based in the United States, they have over 24,000+ members world-wide. One of the most common methods of entry into the IBA is to complete one of the rides they sponsor, such as the "Saddlesore 1000" (1000 miles in less than 24 hours).
Please see www.ironbutt.com.
The RBLR have been in touch with the IBA and established that the world record for the number of "Saddlesore" rides done concurrently is 156. The idea is to raise money for the poppy appeal; raise awareness of the RBLR and the IBA and, of course, set a new world record as the RBLR wants 200 riders to do the challenge concurrently!
The outline will be to start and finish at Squires Cafe near Leeds. There will be a northern route up the A1 to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Edinburgh, Wick, Fort William and back along the M6/M62, just over 1000 miles. On top of that, there's the minor addition of a 400 mile roundtrip from my London home to Leeds and back!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal British Legion gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now! I've set a couple of targets - £240 - a pound an hour - and then I'm aiming to raise £1,000 - a pound for every mile, basically!
Many thanks,
Richard
