Story

Graham’s Story

Graham passed away on 28th February 2017 June leaving his family and many friends devastated.

Graham was a much loved brother to Geoff, Jill and Maxine, father to Michael and grandfather to Toryn, Little Michael and Daniel.

Sadly Graham lost the love of his life, wife Jean in June 2015. She died of a brain tumour and Graham cared for her throughout her 19 month battle. He missed her so much and we are all comforted by the fact that they are reunited once again.

Graham and Jean were publicans for 25 years and were well known in and around the south of England.

They ran pubs in Portsmouth (New Inn), Park Gate (The Sir Joseph Paxton and The Village Inn), Romsey (The Hunters Inn) and Salisbury (The Hampton Inn & Premier Inn)

In the 1980's, Graham and Jean raised over £26,000 for a young girl called Rebecca with cerebral palsy through their pub The Sir Joseph Paxton.

Graham was a really friendly warm and fun loving character with a famous and wicked sense of humour. He loved to play practical jokes on people, family, friends and staff needed to be on their guard!

Graham's other major love was Rock 'n' Roll and his teddy boy mates! With his many friends, he helped to organise "The Hop" Rock and Roll events at Fratton Trades Club.

Following the passing of his wife, the friends and music down there really kept him going. It really energised him and gave him something to focus on. He also gave up his time to help others by driving people around for The Rowans Hospice.

We will miss him so very much every day, such a wonderful man. Can't believe he has gone....

About The Jean Wright Fund

Graham really believed in this charity and was the driving force behind the Team Jean Wright Fund. Caring for Jean in those final months was excruciating and he hoped that one day this fund could help find a cure for a truly terrible disease.

The fund team is made up of a collection of friends, family and former staff team members from the pubs that Jean and Graham ran.

Every penny raised through this fund will be used specifically to help The Brain Tumour Charity which provided much needed support for Jean whilst she was suffering from her illness.

We would like to raise over the £26,000 Jean and Graham raised in the 1980's as a tribute to them both and to show the world how much they meant to us all.
