Why have I chosen to partake in this wondrous adventure?
#1 My consciousness as it pertains to Mental Health began in my early 20's when I fought a dangerous battle with depression. That time is far behind me but we can’t say the same for so many others who face varying degrees of mental health challenges.
#2 I believe a life well lived is a life that has served. I have been fortunate to support various charitable organizations during my life.
#3 Partnering with the Mental Health Foundation makes sense for me because it suits my desire for adventure and exploration along with bringing awareness and funding to a subject matter I care about.
The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health. With prevention at the heart of what they do, the Mental Health Foundation aims to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.
In addition to the overall theme of this trek, I am completing this trek to advocate for the awareness of Race Based Traumatic Stress. The experience of Black People, specifically Black Men in America is different than anywhere in the world.
RBTS speaks to the unique psychological and emotional distress that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) suffer as a result of racism and discrimination. These experiences can be on a macro, meso, or micro level. (Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies)
