Story
Somehow I have found myself with a place in the Virgin London Marathon in April this year! This was totally unexpected, so I’m going to need all the encouragement I can get.
I wonder if you’d help push me on through the 26.2 miles of the Marathon and the 400 odd miles I will be running in training up to April 25th? This will include running the Dartford 10 Mile (Jan 17th), Wokingham Half Marathon (Feb 21st) and Reading Half Marathon (Mar 21st).
As well as these events I will be enjoying a long run of 3-4 hours each Saturday or Sunday, running somewhere between 15 and 20 miles in the beautiful Kent countryside in Lord knows what weather, not to mention another 10-15 miles mid week!
Later in the year I will also be raising funds for Bridge Trust by running in the Bluewater 10k (13th June), Bewl 15 mile (4th July), Dartford Half Marathon (11th July), Bexhill 10k (26th September) and Maidstone Half Marathon (17th October)
At my age? I must be mad! Pass the glucosamine, quick!
Seriously. If you'd like to help you can easily do so by supporting my chosen charity – you won’t even have to get out of your chair!
The Bridge Trust is a Tonbridge, Kent, based charity that has been supporting single homeless people in West Kent since 1991. Shirley and I have been involved with them in various ways over the years and are conscious of the tremendous good they do. Bridge Trust makes a significant difference to homeless people's lives by helping them achieve independence in a home of their own in one of the charity’s houses, and by giving advice and other support. To date they have helped over 5,000 homeless people – more than 250 a year! Who says West Kent has no homelessness problem?!
But this kind of practical support takes money.
In today’s economic climate, grants and other income to charities is in short supply. For a charity like Bridge Trust this has a direct effect on their ability to support homeless people. Please consider helping me through my brief ordeal by helping Bridge Trust support those whose ordeal is much more fundamental.
