Story
On Thursday May 24 2012, the GVI Seychelles Cap Ternay Expedition Base will compete in the first ever Raft Race for Rupees to raise much needed money for the Presidents Village Children's Home.
Four teams of staff and volunteers will race homemade rafts, inflatable tubes and li-los, and handcrafted battleships through a course in Mahe’s Baie Ternay Marine National Park. Teams will have to work together to float all of their members from end to end and beach to beach, completing missions at various mooring buoys along the way.
The challenge will be grueling but the victory will be sweet for one team. Most importantly, the event will raise funds and awareness for GVI’s work with the President’s Village Children’s Home.
The Presidents Village cares for children who are orphans or have parents that are not able to look after them. Some have been abused while others have disabilities or learning difficulties. All are in need of care and the home provides a safe environment for them to live. In addition to feeding and clothing the children, the Presidents Village is looking to take a group on a family camping trip to Praslin, the first time several of the kids will travel off of the island of Mahe. The contributions will continue to fund GVI’s support of these talented kids’extra curricular activities, which wouldn’t be possible without outside help.
Raft Race for Rupees participants can contribute by purchasing a ticket for the post race BBQ for 200 SR. Friends and family at home can support their team by making a donation online. All contributions are greatly appreciated and go directly to the GVI’s President’s Village Charitable Trust account.
