Story

Race Across America (RAAM)

The World's Toughest Bicycle Race

The Race Across America route is about 3043 miles long, from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.  Collectively, the combined distance of finishers is equivalent to circling the Earth at the equator four times.

Each RAAM team climbs nearly 108,600 feet, which is roughly the distance from the ground to the edge of space.

The Race Across America is about generating maximum wattage paced over day and night riding, delicately balanced with managing pain, sleep and nutrition.  Completing in excess of 500 miles per day, riders consume over 5,000 Calories and drink over 10 litres of fluid per day.

Austrian adventurer Wolfgang Fasching has won the solo RAAM, and also climbed Mount Everest.  He says:

"Everest is more dangerous, but RAAM is much harder."

The Mission

The CRY team of Richard Ball, Clive Middleton, Greg Whyte and Mat Wilson aim to finish in the top 3 and celebrate by mounting the podium in Annapolis.

They also aim to raise significant funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

All income after costs (including travel, van and equipment hire) will be donated to CRY.

Donating

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cardiac Risk in the Young will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Any donations made personally by the team or their families do NOT qualify for Gift Aid under the Benefit rules, as the costs of the event are not being borne by the team. These donors must indicate 'N/A' if the Gift Aid question arises.

Donations from companies and non-UK taxpayers do not qualify for Gift Aid.

Donors that are not personally connected to the team MAY agree to Gift Aid being claimed.

Many thanks for your support.
