Story
Doing it for the bees and Cancer Research UK.
Sadly in August, my biggest bee supporter left this Earth way too early. She was amazingly supportive and I'm dedicating this to say thanks to Lesley. She always thought it was suitably nuts to run as a bee!
The background:
In 2013 I decided to rise to the challenge of running 10 races, in the space of 12 months for Cancer Research UK, running all the events in a hand-crafted bumble costume. Being quite new to running, I knew the runs would be challenging but was determined to cross the finish line buzzing with excitement.
Having completed that mission I fought hard to get my London Marathon 2015 place. I trained well, and completed it in 5 hours. Running for five hours is tough! It may not be fast, but I got the medal and the honour of completing the London marathon.
Sadly, my family and friends have been extensively affected by cancer. Having lost 7 family members to cancer I'm keen to get as much support as possible to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I have people very close to my heart going through tough times, and I am in admiration of their resolve and fight.
I’ve always loved bumblebees; they’re such beautiful creatures, and they are needing us to increase biodiversity to protect from their decline. I did the Bupa Great South Run in 2009 and then again in 2012 and wanted to step up my challenge. I thought to myself, ‘if you’re going to do it, you may as well do it in style.’ That’s when the bumble bee idea was born.”
You too can help by planting wildflowers, buying organic, and not being afraid of those gorgeous fluffy minibeasts..... oh, and supporting this amazing charity!
Stay positive and live life to the full!
