A brand new poem, every day until Christmas Eve...
Hello again. How are you? Weird, isn't it?
If you're reading this, you've probably arrived here via the 2020 Poetry Advent Calendar, so you'll know what this is all about. But just in case...
For the last few years, I've been running the Poetry Advent Calendar as a personal project, writing and publishing one new poem for every day of Advent. Last year, I decided to put the idea to some good, and together we raised nearly £700 for Crisis.
This year, with the precarious situation of the arts industry, I wanted to choose a charity that helped those in that sector, as well as the sector itself. There are dozens of worthy organisations doing just that, but I've plumped for the Music Venue Trust, for various reasons; because I've been involved in campaigns they've assisted with in the past, because poetry and music are keen bedfellows, and because if we're ever going to see the sunshine again we're gonna need a whole carnival of music and musicians to soundtrack our lives when we do.
So there we are: That's this year's charity, and this is this year's Poetry Advent Calendar. Here we go again. Grab an upturned bowler hat and let's finish the year on some sort of high.
