About Roof Fund Appeal Bishopsteignton
Our Parish Church was first built in the early 12th Century, circa 1130 and has therefore been at the centre of community life in our village for nearly 900 years. During this time the village has had to deal with a whole variety of challenges and adapt the building to maintain its place in the life of the community. As the largest covered gathering place in the village, we hope it will continue for the generations to come. We are part of the Haldon Team ministry http://www.haldonteam.org.uk/
We are now faced with a new challenge! The slate roof has leaked and rotted some of the battens leading to the fall of plaster into the Nave. The 2017 Quinquennial Review of the state of the church included an immediate recommendation that the roof, dating from the early 19th century, should be replaced. This will be a major project costing in total about £400,000. Our initial investment in the project so far is between £5,000 and £10,000. We are preparing to make a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund which will want to see demonstrated that the project has the support of the Village Community and wider public by the generation of matched funds. Our gap remains in excess of £50,000.
Our churchyard is the resting place for some of Nelson's Admirals who it is believed retired to the village and built some of the grand mansions.
Any financial support which you are able to give us through JustGiving will be greatly appreciated. Bishopsteignton PCC Sort Code 08-92-99 Ac No. 65322325
