Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2013, I was found fitting in a Cheltenham street while out for a run after suffering a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage.
When my family arrived from Leicestershire, to the south west hospitals I now found myself in, they were told if I woke up from the induced coma I was placed in to give my brain a chance to recover - at best I could hope for - I may never walk again and have to spend the rest of my life living in care.
In the words of one of my amazing sister-in-laws - who completed the Brighton Marathon: “I showed the doctors right up!"
Nine months of recovery in a Salisbury Rehabilitation Hospital - mastering basics such as learning to walk again - saw me launched into a different-looking world for me.
I went back to work as a Gloucestershire Sports Journalist and realised a lifelong dream of reporting at my second and third Rugby World Cup in 2015 and 2016.
More importantly though I married the greatest person I have ever met in 2016 - before welcoming the most beautiful little boy, Reggie, into the world a year later.
Driven by the desire to raise awareness of the incredible work Headway do having been helped by them so much in both Gloucestershire and Dorset, and determined to raise as much needed funds for them, I finished the 2018 London Marathon.
I have not been alone on my journey - and it is said in brain injury: “they do not just affect one person.”
In the last few years I have also ran two Leicester Half Marathons - and this will be my fourth consecutive Bournemouth Half Marathon.
This year I am hoping for a personal best time of around two hours - so no pressure guys!
But seriously, after my original diagnosis, everything is a bonus to me now.
