I’m walking one million steps in 100 days to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, and I’m doing it for one of the most important people in my life - my dad.

Late last year, my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer. Hearing those words changed everything. When someone you love that deeply is suddenly facing something so frightening, it puts the whole world into perspective.

My dad has been my moral compass for as long as I can remember. He is the person who shaped my sense of right and wrong, the person who taught me compassion, fairness, and how to stand up for what matters. Every good part of me has roots that lead back to him.

He has spent most of his life caring for others as a nurse, giving his time, his energy, and his kindness to people when they needed it most. Service to others has never been a job to him - it’s simply who he is. He’s always believed in looking after people, in fairness, in community, and in giving back. A lifelong socialist, he has always believed that the world should be kinder, fairer, and more compassionate.

He’s also a lifelong Charlton supporter, loyal through thick and thin - which says a lot about his character in itself!!!

But to me, he is much more than all of that. He is the man who made sacrifices I probably never even realised at the time. The man who stood behind me, guided me, and lifted me when life was heavy. The man who has been the light in my darkest moments.

If I could take this cancer away from him myself, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Walking one million steps is a small thing compared to everything he has given me, but it’s something I can do. Every step is for him, and every donation helps push us closer to a future where fewer families have to hear the words “you have prostate cancer.”

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK, and 1 in 4 black men, and charities like Prostate Cancer UK are working tirelessly to fund research, improve treatments, and ultimately end this disease for good.
