Story
On Friday 17th of May, a group of Network Rail colleagues from the Clapham delivery unit will come together to walk 28 miles, from Woking to Waterloo, where David, the founder of Railway Children used to work.
"Some children have on average between 10 and 20 minutes [on the transport system] before being picked up by someone who would exploit them in India – a paedophile, drug pusher or someone else who would harm them in some way." From the Railway children
At Network Rail, our commitment to safety extends beyond our stations and tracks. This resonates with our former Waterloo railway safety officer and founder of Railway Children, David Maidment. David witnessed first-hand the horrendous circumstances faced by street children while traveling in India. Recognizing that train stations worldwide serve as hotspots for exploitation for children.
Railway Children achieves its mission by providing outreach, advocacy, and support services to vulnerable children living on the streets or at risk of exploitation around railway stations, offering shelter, education, and opportunities for rehabilitation and empowerment
