Story
On 20 & 21 May 2023 Cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers will be taking part in the 2x2x24 Challenge, this involves walking, jogging or running 2 miles, every 2 hours over 24 hours. Participants will take part in the full (24mile), half (12mile) or quarter (6mile) version of the challenge.
Why Smile4Wessex?
Back in May 2022, one of our Adult Volunteers from Thomas Hardye School had what initially seemed like a severe headache, while delivering training on a cadet training weekend. By the end of the following day, they had been in 3 ambulances, 2 hospitals (Dorchester and Southampton) and undergone an emergency operation to relieve the pressure due to too much fluid inside the brain.
Over the next 10 days they were under the care of specialist staff in the Wessex Neurological Centre in Southampton, underwent another emergency operation to remove the newly discovered growth in their brain and was able to be discharged home shortly afterwards. The swift treatment and support received from Wessex Neurological Centre undoubtedly saved their life and reduced any long term side-effects. With your support, Smile4Wessex aims to make it even better by funding cutting-edge equipment and facilities that enhance the range and quality of treatment available, and by sponsoring pioneering research into new treatments for a variety of neurological conditions.
We are hopeful that the Adult Volunteer will be present and even participating in the fund-raising event with us, one year since this life-changing event.
