Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In January 2025 Gavin Booth MBE and Adam Wilton MBE are attempting the first unsupported foot crossing of the Saudi Arabian Rub' al Khali (the "Empty Quarter") . They will travel 800km on foot, hauling all their supplies and water in self made "rickshaw" style carts, weighing more than 175kg each.
The expedition crosses some historic tracks of Thesiger and Philby, as well as a new route north through the dunes. En-route the duo will hope to make use of a natural groundwater oasis in the middle of the Rub' al Khali to replenish water. The Rub' al Khali is the world's largest sand desert and is one of the harshest places on earth and largely unexplored.

Why are we raising money for Frank Water?
Water is the crux of our expedition. We will be carrying all the water we need in our carts; protecting our supplies by using water sparingly and filtering enough water from a groundwater oasis to replenish.
With this on our minds throughout our planning, we're asking you to join us in supporting Frank Water with a donation. Frank Water reaches those that need water the most, working towards a future where the world’s water sources are protected from the impact of the climate crisis. 100% of your donation goes directly to Frank Water.
Frank Water is active in India, Nepal and Kenya and supports communities facing extremely high water stress by strengthening systems, developing tools and approaches for sustainable water security, collective water stewardship and a UK education programme.
“This journey underscores the critical role of water in human survival and the necessity of sustainable water management” Adam Wilton.
“We believe in doing extraordinary things to inspire and give back” Gavin Booth.
Thank you to those that donated offline to this page on "The Big Give", adding an additional £2,000 to our total raised.
