Story
Team Blind Dave is back at it again !
September sees us taking on the Western Front Way cycling 1000km over 7 days, starting from The Swiss border KM0 and finishing on the beaches of Dunkirk, 80 years since the D-Day landings.
The ride will be gruelling in many ways, the terrain is undulating to say the least but the fact that we are following in so many soldier’s footsteps will be unbelievably emotional.
We would love to raise 80k in recognition of the D-Day landing anniversary so that the Albion Foundation can carry on their superb work supporting kids with all disabilities through sport.
The 1000Km route was inspired by a young British soldier of the First World War 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Douglas Gillespie of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. He wrote a letter home from the front line and dreamed of creating a 'Via Sacra'(sacred road) that everyone could follow to honour the fallen. Tragically, Gillespie was killed in action on 26th September 1915 his vision forgotten for a hundred years, until a chance discovery by Anthony Seldon in 2015 who then set about developing the idea which is now a reality.
