We aim to raise awareness of mental health to improve mental wellbeing in Lancashire

Story

In July 2025, we will be attempting to climb the 10 highest mountains in Scotland as fast as possible. I will do this with my two friends James Sunter-Storey and Bryn Catherwood. The full event will be filmed, and published into a documentary style movie in late 2025.

The event will be used to fundraise for Mental Health charity 'Lancashire Mind'.

Lancashire Mind is an independent mental health charity dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of the people of Lancashire.

Based in Chorley, the organisation supports individuals of all ages through a variety of services, including virtual and in-person wellbeing coaching, therapeutic services, housing support, community engagement projects and workplace wellbeing.

Mental Health is an illness that currently affects 1 in 4 people, and as a team we have all experienced, or have personal connections to someone that has suffered with mental health issues during our lifetime.

This event will be documented as 'SUMMIT 10 - Chapter Three Scotland'. Listed as a continuation of the previous two 'SUMMIT 10' events that we carried out in 2023 and 2024, in which we hiked the 10 Highest Mountains in England Back to Back for Dementia UK (2023), and the 10 Highest Mountains in Wales Back to Back for The Children's Hospital Charity (2024) .

The 10 Scottish Mountains we will be summiting back to back:

- BRAERIACH

- SGOR AN LOCHAIN

- CÀIRN TOUL

- BEN MACDUI

- CAIRN GORM

- AONACH MÒR

- AONACH BEAG

- CARN MÒR DEARG

- BEN NEVIS

- BEN LAWERS

Back story of 'SUMMIT 10' (Created by Peter McLay):

In December 2022, I re-watched '14 Peaks' on Netflix after watching it when it first released, and thought it would be cool to do something similar but in the UK.

At the same time a friend of mine had mentioned doing the National 3 peaks challenge in the UK. As much as i like this idea i kept thinking of what Nims had done, and really wanted to really push the boat out, and take on something similar but in the UK.

I then decided why not do something bigger than this… but instead the 10 highest in England, same style as the 3 peaks and hitting them as fast as possible.

In 2023 we did just that. 'SUMMIT 10' was created, and the 10 highest mountains in England were conquered later in July 2023 by Peter McLay, James Sunter-Storey and Bryn Catherwood. A total of nearly £5k was raised for Dementia UK during the fundraiser.

We have since completed 'SUMMIT 10: Chapter Two Wales'. This was the second stage of the original SUMMIT 10 event, in which we climbed the 10 highest mountains in Wales back to back in July 2024 by Peter McLay, James Sunter-Storey and Bryn Catherwood. A total of nearly £2k was raised for The Children's Hospital Charity during the fundraiser.

We appreciate any support towards this event, as we go again and this time take on the Scottish mountains for another monumental event.

Thanks all, Peter.
