Mark Vaughan is raising money for Hospiscare
In memory of David Vaughan

100 MILE MARCH dressed and equipped like a ROMAN LEGIONARY. I will be marching up and down the length of the River Parrett – a total of 100 miles. · 21 September 2026

Hospiscare provides free and specialised nursing to the terminally ill in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. It looks after more than 700 patients at any one time, supporting patients in their own homes and in its hospice. It relies on the generosity of the community to provide this vital service.

Story

100 MILE MARCH dressed and equipped like a ROMAN LEGIONARY. I will be marching up and down the length of the River Parrett – a total of 100 miles. It will be dressed as a Roman soldier. I am doing the march in memory of my dad, David Vaughan who passed away in 2019. Hospice Care were instrumental in keeping the family together and making sure dad’s last few months were as comfortable and happy as possible. I am doing this as a Roman soldier as not only am I a reenactor, but I also do history workshops for schools. The River Parrett is not only a perfect length from source to sea but also used heavily by the Romans when they were in Britain. This challenge will last roughly a week, and I will be hoping to cover about 15 miles a day. Hopefully the weather and the terrain will play ball and make the challenge as easy as it can possibly be.
