Thank you for taking the time to visit our page!
Here at the (Richard) Wade-Martins Lab we love two things: curing diseases and overworking ourselves. What better way to combine our loves than running the Oxford Half Marathon to raise money for Parkinson's UK!
Parkinson's Disease is the second most prevalent and the fastest growing neurodegenerative disorder. As such, more attention must be directed towards its understanding, treatment, and cure. In the Wade-Martins Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration we develop understanding through patient-derived stem cell study, looking at dopaminergic degradation, alpha-synuclein aggregation, and multi-omics in familial and idiopathic cases.
One of the highlights of our role as an invested lab group is our interactions with those who have Parkinson's and their families. Learning about their experiences both informs our research and fuels us to work harder.
Parkinson's UK does extensive work across the country to support patients and families through funding nurses and therapists, hosting events, and being a source of information. They also help to tackle the disease by funding groundbreaking research.
Many of Richard's Runners have never done a running event before and trained up specifically for the Oxford Half. Please help celebrate their efforts and the great work that Parkinson's UK does by donating to the page :)
Much love,
Ollie, Fé, Ben, Ajantha, Luise, Camille, Emilie, and Thomas <3
