Story

One cold day last month a member of public could hear meows outside their front door, only to discover a 7 week old kitten abandoned on their doorstep. He was so cold, and scared. Worried that such a small kitten should not be left outside, the kind member of public brought him to Surrey Cat Centre for safety.

The kitten was cold, hungry and rather scruffy but seemed rather bright and happy once he was somewhere warm and safe. Shortly after arriving he received a health check by the vet, who noted he was underweight but otherwise well. He was a friendly boy from his first day at the centre, who enjoyed fuss from the centre staff and volunteers . The team gave him the name Milton, as he came in just after Hurricane Milton which swept across Florida, and Milton looked like he had survived his own storm.

Milton was shortly taken in by a foster carer where he received the love and care he truly needed, he started to gain weight and show off his cheeky personality. Milton settles in well and spends most of his time playing with his toys and having zoomies between naps. It has not been the easiest of journeys for little Milton, he had some digestive issues, possibly due to eating whatever food he could find, worms and stress. All of these where treated by the vet and gradually he improved and has become healthy as he gets ready to be adopted. This month at 11 weeks old Milton was ready to be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, before being ready for adoption.

Milton became so loved at his foster family, they have adopted him on 18/11/2024 and he has found his forever home. This story has a happy ending, but sadly this is not always the case. Some cats are not so lucky, some come into us when its just too late to help, or with injuries which needs months of treatment.

Help us continue our vital work and be there for every cat’s journey. Together we can help provide a safe space for abandoned cats in Surrey. At Cats Protection, we have seen the rate of abandoned cats and kittens increase by over 30% this year. Cats will never know why they’ve been abandoned. They only know the cold, fear and hunger, and that they’re far from home. But their journey doesn’t end there. Our expert team will get to know every abandoned cat so we can find their perfect owner and home, and ensure they’re healthy and ready to continue their journey.

We have launched this appeal to help us support more cats and kittens like Milton. Your support will provide the food, warmth and expert care that cats who we help need, until we find them a loving new home.

We receive no government funding and rely heavily on kind members of the public to support our work and allow us to help cats who are in life-threatening situations. Even a small gift can help abandoned cats and kittens, and every penny makes a difference.

We’re here for every cat’s journey, and for every owner who needs our advice and support.
