I’m Russell, and in May I will be travelling from Land’s End to John o’ Groats to raise money for LATCH.

My grandson, Thomas Lewis, is currently undergoing stage four chemotherapy for leukaemia at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff. LATCH have been supporting him and our family throughout this, and what they do is incredible. Because of that, I want to give something back.

LATCH support families affected by childhood cancer across Wales, providing emotional, practical and financial help when it is needed most. Based at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, they are there for families during the most difficult time of their lives. They help with the extra financial pressures, provide dedicated support through social workers, offer free activities and holidays, and even provide accommodation at the hospital so families can stay together.

This journey is deeply personal. I have also had cancer myself and live with ongoing health issues, so this will not be a fast or easy trip. I’ll be travelling at my own pace, doing what I can each day, making my way through Wales, England and Scotland.

I won’t be staying in hotels. I’ll be camping along the way and sharing the journey as it happens. Every stop will be documented with photos, videos and updates on social media, and I’ll also be speaking with local radio along the route to raise awareness.

This isn’t about breaking records. It’s about doing something meaningful during a difficult time, and raising as much as possible for a charity that is helping my grandson right now.

Every donation goes directly to LATCH and will help support children with cancer and their families across Wales.
