This year, Mediterra Bakehouse & Cafés has pledged to raise $10,000 for the UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation Free Care Fund. Every dollar donated goes directly toward helping families who need financial support for their child’s care.

Our connection to UPMC Children’s is deeply personal. Just before Christmas in 2018, our son, Konstantinos Ambeliotis, arrived ahead of schedule. Shortly after his birth, he was sent to the NICU due to irregular breathing.

After a week in the hospital, we were finally able to bring him home—only to have him readmitted days later with a bone infection. He spent another week at Children’s, then was transferred to the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh and Lemieux Family Center, where he spent his very first Christmas.

Those first months of Konstantinos’s life were filled with fear and uncertainty, but one thing was always certain: the care and compassion we received at UPMC Children’s Hospital.
