Story
Hi All,
As some of you are aware, over the last 3 years I have raised money in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK to honour my Poppas life and spread awareness of the disease which is currently affecting him. This year I have decided to push myself to new limits by attempting to run 7 marathons in 7 days. The first one being the Shakespeare Marathon on Sunday 28th April 2025 and the rest being ran around my local area.
Alzheimer’s is a disease which has had a direct impact on my life as my Poppa has been suffering from it for a number of years. Not only has my Poppa suffered but so have many of his siblings, unfortunately they have passed from the horrible disease. Over the last couple of years I have watched my poppa lose his knowledge of his identity and the great man he is. My poppa is a kind and caring man, who always put his loved ones first.
Throughout my poppas life, football has been a key passion, something I have also developed a deep love for.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects 6 in 10 people with dementia in the UK alone. Alzheimer’s disease damages the brain which is linked to proteins called amyloid and tau. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia all affecting different neurones from functioning properly.
