Story

I have always been a fitness fanatic ! Including horse riding, running over the Malvern hills, participating in spinning and body attack classes and generally loving anything fitness wise.

In December 2022 my left wrist was painful but I assumed I had sprained it in the gym doing a burpee during a body attack class. I left it for 2 months hoping the pain would go away.

On 10th Febuary 2023 I had an X-ray and this is when life changed after being told I had a tumour in my left distal radius. I was sent to Worcester hospital the following day as an emergency then immediately to The Royal Orthopedic Hospital in Birmingham where I was diagnosed after a biopsy with an aggressive Giant cell tumour in my radius bone.

I had my first surgery on 13th July 2023 where they removed my radius bone which was replaced with temporary custom metal plating.

My second surgery was on 19th February 2024, when it was agreed that I would have my vascularised fibula removed from my leg and grafted into my arm. This was a 9 hour operation.

The recovery has been hard, from not being able to walk, to having daily intense hydro therapy and physio at the hospital. I am now walking 4 months later. Thanks to the amazing hydrotherapy team at ROH, however this is a long road to recovery.

I will know if the graft in my arm has been successful in the next 6 -9 months, having scans and consultations every 3 months at the ROH.

The Oncology surgeons, the plastic surgeon team and staff at the hospital have been incredible. The pressure they work under dealing with the most awful illnesses, they deserve a medal !! So much of this hard work and dedication to saving lives goes unseen.

So I want to shout from the roof tops how great they have been and do a fundraising event to give back what I have received.

On Saturday 27th July 2024 We are doing a team a 12 hour spin session 7am to 7pm! Let’s see how far we can travel !

We would love you to donate and join us!! Booking opens on July 13th !! There are 10 bikes per session waiting to be booked at Anytime Fitness Malvern.

We just ask for a minimum £5 donation to the charity flowing the link attached.

You also don’t have to do the full 12 hours, you can book a bike on the hour between 7am to 7pm and just be part of this fantastic team !

Or please to donate to this amazing cause.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is a fantastic charity!!
